Did you know that women are less likely to self-promote than men?
It's true, and it's a phenomenon that has been observed in many professions. Women often downplay their achievements, which can hinder career growth and opportunities for recognition. ATX Women in Web3 believes in empowering women and non-binary professionals to celebrate their wins with humble confidence. That's why we started the Community Feature campaign, (#Web3WomenWednesday) where we amplify the voices of awesome women and non-binary professionals. If you know someone who deserves to be celebrated, reach out to us!
Why do women hesitate to self-promote? 🙋♀️
The classic self-promotion paradox. There are several reasons why women may be less likely to self-promote compared to men. Societal norms, expectations, and the fear of being labeled as arrogant or boastful can all contribute to women's reluctance to self-promote. However, embracing your accomplishments is not about boasting—it's about acknowledging your worth and contributions. 🤑
Embracing humble confidence
It's important for all of us to recognize our accomplishments and embrace humble confidence. Remember - it's not bragging if it's true! Here are some ways to celebrate your wins without feeling boastful:
1. Share your achievements with trusted friends and mentors
Instead of broadcasting your accomplishments to the world, start by sharing them with a close circle of friends and mentors who can provide support and encouragement. They can help you see the value in your achievements and boost your confidence.
2. Focus on the impact of your work
When talking about your achievements, highlight the positive impact they have had on others or the organization. By shifting the focus to the value you have created for the greater good, you can feel more comfortable discussing your accomplishments.
3. Reframe the mindset
Replace self-doubt with empowering self-talk. Instead of saying "I think I'm good at this," confidently state, "I am skilled at this because..." Speaking positively about yourself can subtly influence your mindset.
4. Practice self-reflection
Take time to reflect on your achievements and the skills you have developed along the way. Keep a personal achievement journal to recognize your strengths and the unique contributions you bring to the table. This self-awareness will help you feel more confident when discussing your accomplishments.
5. Support and uplift others
Celebrate the achievements of your colleagues and peers. By creating a culture of support and recognition, you can feel more comfortable celebrating your own wins. Remember, celebrating others does not diminish your own accomplishments. (we really vibe with this one) ✨💖
6. Leverage networking opportunities to share your expertise
Engaging with peers, mentors, and industry leaders can be a powerful way to showcase your skills. Seek out networking opportunities that align to your strengths. When discussing your accomplishments, focus on the impact you've made and the challenges you've overcome, rather than just listing them.
Let's reframe the notion of bragging 🤗
Remember, celebrating your successes doesn't equate to arrogance. It's about acknowledging your efforts and the value you bring to the table. When you promote yourself, you're not just benefiting yourself—you're inspiring others, especially younger women, to embrace their accomplishments as well.
ATX Women in Web3 believes every woman and non-binary professional deserves to be celebrated. We are committed to amplifying their voices and showcasing their accomplishments through our Community Feature campaign. Together, let's celebrate our wins with humble confidence and inspire others to do the same!
